Team/Draft Analysis (with predictions) by
Nathan Lee

Home Page

My name is Nathan Lee and I own the Gold Coast Chargers. I have been playing
fantasy football off and on for six years, but have been more active the last
few years. This analysis will mainly focus on bye weeks, current injuries or
perceived weaknesses. I am holding of my order of elimination until after week
3, as anything can happen in the first 3 weeks. So once there are a few
injuries, starters change and the byes kick in, I will offer a week by week
anaylsis of who I feel will go that week.

My system will be simple, three lights:

Red light - Look out, dangerous week for this team.
Yellow light - Proceed with caution, risky week ahead.
Green light - You're on easy street, sit back and relax.

The only weeks I will be looking at are the bye weeks.

Here we go…

         Anoka Tornadoes
         Brandon Prince
QB Frerotte, Gus MIA 4
QB McNabb, Donovan PHI 6
QB Warner, Kurt ARI 6

Red light – 3, 6, 9
Yellow light – 4, 7
Green light – 5, 8, 10

Anoka went a solid strategy, back ups for all the minor positions, and even a
3rd QB. He also drafted 5 decent options at RB, headlined by Jones and Portis.

However, all this backing up came at the expense of WRs, of which the Tornadoes
have but 4, albeit 4 solid WRs with varying bye weeks. Provided his WRs stay
healthy, 4 should be enough and see them through, at least until week 6, if not
the end.

Green light – 3, 10

My draft strategy went out the window when I took Moss at 15, but seeing
Barber, Rudi and the rest there, I didn’t feel the RB talent matched the WR
talent, in hindsight Westbrook may have been the pick.

My team has some serious bye week concerns, which far outweigh the obvious
talent on the team. Some nice upside RBs in Moats and Parker, but a TE instead
of Barber may have been wise. Week 4 is my first speed bump, and I will be
lucky to slip past week 8.

DT Indianapolis IND 8

Red light – 3, 8, 10
Yellow light – 4, 9
Green light – 5, 6, 7

This team is by far the deepest at RB (where was I when he took these guys!),
right down to Green who could see some time in Cleveland. His QBs suffered
slightly grabbing this RB talent, but has enough to survive. The WRs are also
nice with AJ, Boldin and a pair of nice sleepers in TJ and Bryant.

The Ravens D headline the bottom 6 roster spots, but a solid 2,2,2 with plenty
of upside in Graham, Indy and Cooley. Week 3 is a small test, but week 8 is the
crucial one for a very solid team.

Green light – 3, 5, 8

This team is defiantly in the top 3-4, due to its depth at RB (4 solid RBs is a
perfect strategy), QB (3 top starters) and WR (far from the best but Horn and
the rest will suffice in a league this size).

Defense is the only concern for Miami, which kinda says something. So long as
Boller, MacGahee, Green and McMichael hold the fort in week 7, which they
should, this team is heading for a top 4 finish.

Dave went for risky weeks later on in the season, and week 10 is one that makes
sense. However, having week 8 this season is a major concern. There will only
be 6 teams left that week, so you would hate to be at your weakest then. The
biggest drop of is going from Manning to Ramsay, heres hoping for the trump
card (immunity) in week 7.

Cedric Benson ended his holdout, so T. Jones will see his value slide as the
season goes on, but still is useful in a survivor league. If Smith and Rogers
stay healthy at WR, then Dave is a serious threat. How big a threat we will see
in week 8.

This team picked a very sound strategy, 2 good QBs, 2 good RBs, and 5 WRs of
similar value, but Burleson should shine. To combat the questionable talent
amongst the WRs, chose a strategy that enabled him to have 6, which will work
in his favour, big time!

2 Solid Ks, and 2 even more solid defenses leaves no room for error towards the
bottom, headlined by a great TE in Crumpler. Weeks 3 and 5 are a little iffy,
but only injury will stop this team.

The longer this team lasts, the better its chances improve, which is the
opposite to most teams. Week 3 is especially scary with both Ks and 2 WRs out.
Week 5 sees 2 RBs, a QB and a WR resting, Barber being amongst them. However,
as far as bad weeks go, these aren’t horrific, but week 3 will be interesting.

The Dogs went your standard 2,2,2 at the bottom, with one solid position and
one late pick up in each. Overall this is a solid team that could surprise us
all.

Green light – 4, 8, 10

That’s a lot of redl ights for this team, but not many of them are season
threatening, but still of concern. The RBs are headed by DD, and could be
anywhere from spectacular to mediocre, depending on the development of
Arrington and Bell. Shelton has been IR’d which is a blow before the season
even begins.

The Tormentors went for 6 WRs to try and maximise points from that position,
but none are considered studs. So long as 2-3 score a TD a week, then they will
do the job. The teams other weakness is in the Ks, with Cundiff out hurt and
currently not on a squad, so week 6 will be a toughie. Pray Bell is a monster
by then!

Yellow light – 4, 6, 7, 8
Green light – 3, 10

Shock N Awe didn’t dissapoint once again, drafting a balanced squad. That being
said, week 5 s a huge test. Ricky will be off suspension, but 2 of his RBs will
be on a bye, combined with Gonzo, 2 WRs and a def. Week 9 is also a toughie,
but given the format of the final weeks, its not that big an issue.

Once this team escapes week 5 (as well as the 4 Ricky-less weeks), it will only
get better. This is helped by 2 of the most solid QBs in the league, who will
cover the bye weeks very well. The Ks and Defs are solid, without being
spectacular, just what you aim for.

      The Gridiron Giants

DT San Diego SDC 10

Red light – 3, 10
Yellow light – 5, 7, 8, 9
Green light – 4, 6

I must say, I absolutely love this team … strong across the board, bye weeks
covered well, and weighted towards the combined weeks. The RBs consist of a few
players who could act as either TD vultures, or back ups, if star players go
down. Losman on his own in week 5 could be a problem, but not as bad as week 3,
when the team will go with no K. However, with 11 teams still around, 1 team
should surely do worse!

CJ and Harrison lead a very strong WR, and the TEs are solid, with LJ Smth
ready for a breakout season. The defenses may underpeform weak to weak, and if
this team goes out early or on a yellow week, it will be due to a low point
total from the def, amongst other factors.

          The Lynch Mob
         Brian Prescott
QB Carr, David HOU 3
QB Vick, Michael ATL 8

DT Detroit DET 3

Red light – 8, 9, 10
Yellow light – 3, 7, 4
Green light – 5, 6

Some unfortunate events may hurt this team in week 1. Gates is sitting and
McAllister has had less then an ideal preperation. The other issue is the 4 RB
approach taken by the Mob. Jackson and McAllister will carry the load up until
weeks 9 and 10, but any injuries (even one game) could be disastrous.

The WRs are large in number and high in skills, and will get this team through
many a difficult week, with 2 talented yet inconsistent QBs leading the team.
The TEs , Ks and Defs are all solid, and will not hurt this team except in
cases such as Gates in week 1. Survive this weekend and this team will surprise
everyone.

Green light – 3, 4, 7, 10

Look at the risky weeks, 9 is perfect, exactly what you want as a red week, but
week 8! Week 8 is a danger week for anyone with a red light, as there will be
only 6 teams left, and one must go. Edge for instance is out that week, so pray
Bennet is healthy, Carnell is playing well, and/or Gore is stealing TDs and
carries in San Fran.

This team has a slight dip in WR talent, compared to some others, but with 6 in
total, 2-3 should bring in some decent points. Jolley is backing up for the
Jets now, so don’t expect many points from the TE position. The Ks and Defs are
below average, but should provide consistent points at the lower end of the
scale.

Red light – 5, 8
Yellow light – 4, 6, 9
Green light – 3, 7, 10

Straight of the bat this team took an approach of 3 lower QBs, in the hope one
has a good week each week. Not a bad strategy at all, but you need to look
where that 3rd spot was taken from. In this case it was at the expense of a
TE2, but with only Wiggin at TE, the dropoff in the bye week shouldn’t be too
bad.

This team has only 2 Red and 2 yellow weeks, but talent level is a major
concern (outside of the excellent WR core). Sure, they boast the #2 RB in
football, but the rest of them are questionable from day one, and none would
be ‘starters’ in a 12 team standard league this week. This team needs to get
and stay healthy at RB, exceed at WR, and rely on 1 QB stepping up each week.
The Ks and Defs are below average, and will not provide much in the way of
points.

Thanks to Nathan for stepping up and doing an outstanding job on the analysis!
